Yesterday Mercer Area Ambulance & Rescue, Inc. (MAAR) provided notice that it was no longer providing service to the Towns of Mercer, Oma and Sherman effective at midnight on December 31, 2024.  (I am having technical difficulties attaching the letter to this email).

The Town of Sherman is serviced by two ambulance providers.  One is Mercer (MAAR) and the other is Park Falls (Flambeau Hospital, Inc. d/b/a as Marshfield Medical Center – Park Falls).  Park Falls ambulance covers most of Sherman from Mirror Lake Road on Hwy 182 to the west.  If you live west of Mirror Lake Road, Park Falls ambulance remains your primary ambulance provider.  

If you live on Mirror Lake Road or to the east (including Dam Road, Powell Road area, Grant Lake Road) you have been serviced by Mercer ambulance.  Do to the current situation you may experience longer wait times as the availability of an alternative ambulance provider under mutual aid agreements is determined.  The drive time will obviously increase.

Sue Gantner, First Responder Service Director, has reached out to Park Falls Ambulance.  Sue and I have been in discussion and we will provide additional information once it is available.
